Drug peddlers arrested with Rs. 14 Mn in cash

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Police Special Task Force arrested two suspects for the possession of Rs. 14 Million in cash, a pistol and two magazines.

According to Sri Lanka Police, officers from the Police Special Task Force Headquarters had carried out an operation Monday (4) in Tangalle and Thelikada resulting in the arrest of a suspect involved in peddling drugs and another for assisting in the drug operation.

Police said that the drug operation was mainly taking place via the sea route using multi-day fishing vessels.

The suspect arrested in Tangalle is the skipper of a multi-day fishing vessel, a 32-year-old male from Seenimodara.

Rs. 5 Million in drug money, 377g of gold jewellery, 10g of heroin, and a mobile device were seized from the possession of the suspect.

Police said that the main suspect had fled the area and his house was raided, resulting in the arrest of his 60-year-old father for assisting in the drug operation.

A pistol manufactured overseas, two magazines, Rs. 9 Million in drug money, a satellite phone, and two mobile devices were seized from the possession of the suspect.

The Police Narcotic Bureau is conducting investigations to arrest the main suspect and others involved in the drug operation.
