Sand, stone licences to be issued by single institution from 2022

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau states that licences for the transportation and excavation of soil, sand and stone will be issued by a single institution from January 01st.

Chairman of the Geology and Mining Bureau, Anura Walpola stated that licences can be obtained after visiting the Geology and Mining Bureau and submitting the relevant documents.

Related services can also be obtained from the Geological Survey and Mining Bureau from its offices located island wide.

Earlier, people were severely inconvenienced when obtaining permits for the transportation and excavation of soil, sand and stone.

A Presidential Task Force was recently appointed to look into issues arising out of the use of land resources such as stone, sand and soil for development purposes, headed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration and Management, J.J. Ratnasiri.

He stated that licences will be issued for quarries for a period of 03 years.
