Decision reached to recruit 28,000 officers to Community Police

COLOMBO (News 1st); State Minister of Transport, Dilum Amunugama says that a decision has been reached to recruit 28,000 officers to the Community Police Service.

Accordingly, the decision has been reached per the directives issued by the President, in order to increase the cadre of the Police to 100,000, and relevant steps for that has been discussed with the Army Commander on the possibility of using military training schools in order to train these 28,000 Police officers.

Mentioning that there are only a limited number of training schools, the State Minister pointed out that since most are full, the officials may have to wait until a certain batch at a training school are done, and the President has given directives to train these 28,000 officers at military training schools, as to enable deploying two officers to one division each.
