HRCSL summons CID, TID & Police over PTA

COLOMBO (News 1st): The directors of the Criminal Investigation Department, the Terrorism Investigation Division, and the Police Legal Division were summoned to the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka on Wednesday (29).

The Director of the commission, Nihal Chandrasiri, speaking to News 1st stated that the detainees being held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act were discussed during the meeting.

The directors were summoned before the new chairperson of the commission, retired Supreme Court Judge Rohini Marasinghe on Wednesday (29).

The Director of the Human Rights Commission Nihal Chandrasiri stated that a lengthy inquiry was conducted into the involvement of the CID, the Terrorism Investigation Division, and the Police Legal Division in the detention of inmates under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

He pointed out that this summons was made in accordance with the provisions available to the Commission to inquire into the detainees.

As another step of the procedure to inquire into detainees under the PTA, the Colombo Crimes Division has been summoned to the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka on Thursday (30).
