COLOMBO (News 1st); The process to recall and release gas cylinders will take some time, says State Minister of Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna.

Speaking with regard the gas issue, the State Minister said that only about a thousand gas cylinders can be recalled each day, and the relevant cylinders have already been recalled and sent to Hambantota.

Thereafter, the State Minister said that the cylinders will be sent to the factory, the gas will be emptied, the standard gas will be inserted, and released back to market.

This is a process, the State Minister said, mentioning that the process takes a considerable amount of time.

Moreover, the State Minister said that it is up to the relevant Government agency responsible for quality control to decide whether or not to destroy or to re-calibrate the gas cylinder.

However, as the Consumer Affairs Authority, the responsible Government agencies are bound to implement the recommendation, he added.
