Rs. 400 Million worth illicit liquor & narcotics seized in 2021

COLOMBO (News 1st): More than 36,000 people have been arrested during illegal liquor and narcotics raids, so far this year, the Excise Department of Sri Lanka said. A majority of 18,572 suspects have been arrested for the possession, transportation, and sale of illegally manufactured spirits, Kapila Kumarasinghe, the Deputy Commissioner of Excise noted. Another 2296 suspects have been arrested for the possession of Heroin. According to the Excise Department, the total value of the items seized during raids this year was over Rs. 400 million. The total fine imposed on the arrested suspects is Rs. 116 million.
