GMOA strike continues; patients severely inconvenienced

COLOMBO (News 1st): The island-wide strike action launched by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) over several demands including the transfer of doctors without the approval of the Transfer Board, will continue on Wednesday (Dec. 22) for the second day. Patients have been severely inconvenienced due to the GMOA strike action, as hospital operations are disrupted. "The COVID-19 and Emergency Treatment Services will continue without any disruptions despite the strike," Dr. Chandika Epitakaduwa, the Vice President of the GMOA told News 1st. He further noted that discussions were held on Tuesday (Dec. 21) with health sector officials including the Health Secretary and the Director-General of Health Services, on five main issues pertaining to the strike action. The GMOA is awaiting a response from the Ministry of Health, Dr. Epitakaduwa added.
