COLOMBO(News 1st): Renowned Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was interrogated for almost 5 hours by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Delhi, in connection with the Panama Papers case.

She testified in front of the investigators after the federal agency summoned her to participate in the investigation.

The probe agency recorded her statement over claims she parked her money in a company based in the British Virgin Islands.

Under the Foreign Exchange Management Act of 1999, the ED recorded the Indian actresse's statement in the case, involving allegations of stashing wealth abroad. She had previously submitted records pertaining to the foreign payments under investigation.

The ED had served notices to the Bachchan family, requesting that they explain their foreign remittances made since 2004 under the Reserve Bank of India's Liberalized Remittance Scheme (LRS).
