Dr Fauci: Omicron is raging through the world

COLOMBO(News1st): The US will have to brace itself as it is heading in to a tough winter, as the Omicron variant is now raging through the world, Dr Fauci, who advises the US government on the pandemic stated.

Countries across the world are tightening measures and closing down borders as the heavily mutated Omicron variant is spreading at an alarming rate.

The Netherlands went in to strict lockdown over Christmas, while Germany and France issued travel restrictions.

Dr Fauci urged people to take precautions such as wearing face masks and social distancing, as Christmas travel will increase the spread of the Omicron Covid-19 variant, even among the fully vaccinated.

He also stressed that more Americans should get their vaccine and booster shots, citing that as the major difference between those vaccinated and unvaccinated with regard to the risk of severity.

Dr Fauci gave the warnings as two US Senators, Democrats Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker had tested positive for Covid-19.

The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that Covid- 19 cases of the Omicron variant are doubling every 1.5 to 3 days with documented spread.

Proving that this could be the most contagious virus that our civilization has faced to date.

Since the inception of the pandemic, the US has reported more than 50 million cases of coronavirus, and more than 800,000 Covid-19 related deaths.
