COLOMBO (News 1st); The Newly appointed Director of the Right to Information (RTI) Commission, Senior Lecturer of the Open University of Sri Lanka, Dr. Athulasiri Kumara Samarakoon says that he has directed his resignation to the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Thursday (16).
In an email directed to the President, Dr. Samarakoon states that it will be difficult for him to continue his service in the position without experiencing a conflict of interest between the obligations of being a member of the commission and of his academic career and in civil society activism.
The President, on 11th December appointed retired Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyratne to chair the commission while the members included Liyana Arachchilage Jagath Bandara Liyana Arachchi, Kishali Pinto Jayawardena, Retired Judge Rohini Walgama and Dr. Athulasiri Kumara Samarakoon.
