COLOMBO (News 1st); A writ petition was filed in the Court of Appeal on Wednesday (08) seeking an order directing the Attorney General and the Inspector General of Police to take legal action under criminal law against the gas companies and those responsible for importing and distributing unsafe domestic gas cylinders.
The petition was filed by social activist Nagahananda Kodithuwakku.
It also demanded that Laugfs and Litro Gas be ordered to pay compensation to the victims of the domestic gas explosions and to the families of the victims.
The petition named Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena, State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Laugfs and Litro Gas Companies, the Consumer Affairs Authority, Director General of the Sri Lanka Standards Bureau Siddhika Senaratne, and the Attorney General as respondents.
The petition is scheduled to be heard in the Court of Appeal on Thursday (09).
