Over 1,000 incidents of landslides, embankment collapses reported: NBRO

COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) says that 1,144 incidents of landslides and embankment collapses have been reported in the island due to recent heavy rains.

Its Senior Geologist, Wasantha Senadheera stated that 96 landslides were reported, among these incidents.

He mentioned that 9 people were also killed due to landslides last month.

Senior Geologist Senadheera added that the stabilization of ground in risk areas has already commenced.
