COLOMBO (News 1st); Parliamentarian Dr. Wijedasa Rajapakshe, President’s Counsel states that a serious fraud has taken place in depriving the Government of the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology.
Rajapakshe points out that the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), which was established under the Mahapola Trust Fund, has been fraudulently and corruptly acquired by the lecturers of the University of Moratuwa Lakshman Ratnayake, Lalith R. Gamage and Thilan Wijesinghe.
Addressing a letter to the President, MP Wijedasa Rajapakshe said that during the 100 days of the Good Governance in 2015, the land where the IT company was located had been obtained by those persons as a 60 year lease through a deed.
As a result, the Mahapola Trust Fund has not received the revenue of the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology properly during the last 6 years.
MP Rajapakse thus points out that the loss to the Mahapola Trust Fund due to this fraud is over Rs. 40,000 million.
he adds that the Presidential Commission to Investigate Allegations of Fraud and Corruption had even recommended that those involved in the fraud be punished, and requested the President to look into this matter and take over this institution again under the Mahapola Trust Fund.
