Experts say gas cylinders do not explode: Minister Bandula

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Government Analyst and other experts including Professors at Universities have stated that Gas Cylinders do not explode, says Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardena says. 

Speaking at the Parliament today (27), the Minister said that experts have expressed their opinion on the recent gas cylinder explosions, and have stated that gas cylinders do not usually explode. 

Several cases of gas cylinder explosions sparked a debate at the Parliament today (27), when MP Kins Nelson alleged that the public are standing in lines to purchase gas cylinders, which ultimately ended up being bombs in their own homes. 

The Speaker of the Parliament responded to the MP stating that gas is a naturally flammable substance, to which Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena stated that such cases are unnatural. 

Minister Gunawardena went onto say that the Government has drawn its swift attention to this issue.

SJB MP Lakshman Kiriella questioned the Government on whether or not the impacted will be compensated for their losses, and emphasized that the first priority of the Government should be paying compensation to the victims, and not spending time attempting to find faults in gas cylinders.

MP Hesha Withanage added that the victims should be paid compensation and the stocks of gas cylinders must be suspended.
