'Civic Education' subject to be amended

COLOMBO (News 1st); The subject 'Civic Education' from grades 6 to 9 will be subject to amendments as per the recommendations of the Technical Subcommittee for the Inclusion of Law as a subject in the School Curriculum, State Minister Susil Premjayantha stated, presenting the report of the relevant committee, today (26). Accordingly, the subject will be amended as 'Law and Citizenship Education'. The subject material will also be amended to educate children about the law, create awareness about the consequences and punishments for disobedience of the law, provide an understanding of the rights of law-abiding citizens, and provide an understanding of the mechanism of law making and law enforcement. Moreover, the children will also be given an understanding of responsibility and will also be allowed to develop their skills further with this move.
