COLOMBO (News 1st); The day the Government took the decision to ban chemical fertilizer, we publicly stated that it will not become a successful decision, said SLPP MP Chandima Weerakkody.
The SLPP MP expressed his views on the resumption of the import of chemical fertilizers and the rapid increase in vegetable prices in the market while speaking to media recently.
Adding that although it has now been decided to resume the importation of chemical fertilizer, MP Weerakkody stated that the decision may not have much longevity as the Government’s decisions change rapidly.
” The prices of vegetables have gone up to a level that the people cannot afford due to the fertilizer shortage and the situation during this rainy season,” he mentioned.
The MP added that with the return of tourists, a huge demand has been created for the necessary vegetables and fruits in the tourism industry.
