COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamamge announced that permission will be granted to the private sector to import Chemical fertilizers, Weedicides, and Pesticides with effect from Wednesday (24).
He told the weekly cabinet media briefing that the gazette notification banning such imports will be revoked with effect from Wednesday (24).
However, there will be NO change to the policy of the government in adopting a green Agri economy, which would see the provision of necessary seeds, fertilizer subsidies, certified prices as well as necessary market positions, he stressed.
He said farmers can now purchase chemical fertilizers from the open market.
