SL must ensure that debt crisis is averted: MP Chandima Weerakkody

COLOMBO (News 1st); SLPP Parliamentarian Chandima Weerakkody says that, as a country with a monetary discipline, Sri Lanka must ensure the debt is properly managed so a possible crisis could be averted. Speaking in Parliament yesterday (19), he said to avoid a critical situation, Sri Lanka must hold discussions with the countries and institutions from which we obtained loans and request for time to settle those loans. Commenting on the Petroleum Ministry's claims on continuing operations whilst suffering losses, MP Weerakkody said everyone must bear the responsibility for this. Parliamentarian Chandima Weerakkody mentioned that the people are severely inconvenienced due to the lack of fertilizer, adding that Sri Lanka failed to reap the agricultural benefits during a year that saw adequate rainfall due to certain sudden decisions.
