COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Meteorology says that a low pressure area is likely to form over south Andaman sea and its neighborhood from today (13). Accordingly, the naval and fishing communities operating in the deep sea areas in the east of the island are advised to be attentive in this regard as well. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Kankasanturai via Mannar, while showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island. Moreover, the wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Kankasanturai via Mannar and it will increase up to 45-50 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Additionally, the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Kankasanturai via, Mannar will be rough at times and sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle will be fairly rough at times, and the Meteorological Department addds that temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
