Director of Hydrology at the Irrigation Department, Engineer D. Abeysiriwardena, said that no significant rainfall was received in the areas surrounding the main reservoirs during the last 24-hours and therefore, the sluice gates could be closed.

However, he noted that the sluice gates of the Angamuwa, Thabbowa, Rajanganaya, Yan-Oya, Kantale and Deduru-Oya Reservoirs will remain open throughout today as well.

Furthermore, he also noted that some canals associated with irrigation reservoirs have been damaged due to heavy rains.
