Sluice gates of some reservoirs to remain closed

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Irrigation says that sluice gates of many Reservoirs and tanks in the Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Puttalam and Vavuniya Districts, will remain closed today (12). Director of Hydrology at the Irrigation Department, Engineer D. Abeysiriwardena, said that no significant rainfall was received in the areas surrounding the main reservoirs during the last 24-hours and therefore, the sluice gates could be closed. However, he noted that the sluice gates of the Angamuwa, Thabbowa, Rajanganaya, Yan-Oya, Kantale and Deduru-Oya Reservoirs will remain open throughout today as well. Furthermore, he also noted that some canals associated with irrigation reservoirs have been damaged due to heavy rains.
