COLOMBO (News 1st); The Keselwatta Police requested the Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala to issue an order preventing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya from holding a massive series of protests on 16th November. The Police made this request stating that the protest violates the provisions of the Extraordinary Gazette Notification issued by the Director General of Health Services on 9th November. Moreover, the Keselwatta Police made this request following a complaint lodged with the IGP by the Director General of Health Services that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic could threaten to spread again throughout the country. Senior Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, who appeared on behalf of the Keselwatta Police, said that holding a protest two weeks after the opening of the country could trigger another COVID-19 wave. However, due to the inconvenience of reporting the matter to the court today, the Chief Magistrate directed that the request be made before the open court on 15 November and that an appropriate order be issued on that day.
