COLOMBO (News 1st): The Colombo - Kandy main road will remain closed from Lower Kadugannawa, until 9:00 AM on Friday (Nov. 12). The Road Development Authority has requested motorists to use alternative routes and exercise caution when driving. The alternate routes to reach Kandy are as follows: - Travel to Kurunegala through Ambepussa, and head towards Kandy by passing through Galagedara and Katugastota. - Travel to Polgahawela through Kegalle and then head towards Kandy through Kurunegala, Galagedara, and Katugastota. - Travel to Rambukkana from Mawanella and reach Kandy by passing Hatharaliyadda, Galagedara and Katugastota. - The people travelling from Kandy to Colombo can travel to Kurunegala via Katugastota and Galagedara and reach Colombo. The Colombo - Kandy main road was closed from Lower Kadugannawa at 10:00 PM on Wednesday (10), due to the risk of landslides. Senior Professor in Geology Athula Senaratne who visited the location said a row of fruit stalls along the Colombo - Kandy road are at the risk of being damaged due to landslides. Some stalls were damaged because of landslides. Officials from the National Building Research Organization inspected the area on Thursday (11). State Minister Kanaka Herath, officials from the Disaster Management Centre, the Divisional Secretary, and Sri Lanka Army personnel were also present. The Mawanella Police had set up roadblocks at Ganethenna to divert vehicles to alternate routes.
