COLOMBO (News 1st): The JVP has called on the Chairman of Litro Gas to expose those responsible for the present shortage of LP Gas in Sri Lanka.

On Friday (5), Litro Gas Lanka Chairman Theshara Jayasinghe revealed that a foreign company which is supplying gas is behind the severe gas shortage in the country, as well as several deceitful officials who are aiding and abetting them.

He referred to them as the Gas Mafia at a special media where the Board of Directors of the company was also present.

Jayasinghe said that a severe gas shortage was created due to the strong impact made by the foreign company to get their two-year service agreement extended by another two years.

"The gas ship has come close to the port but they are not distributing gas, until their agreement is extended and they threw us up against the wall," he said.

According to him, the severe shortage of gas was created because of this situation.

He said that President Rajapaksa and the Central Bank Governor intervened without being subject to the influence of the said company and made arrangements to get the ship containing gas released to enable Sri Lanka to receive gas stocks during the upcoming days.

"We have resumed production. We now release around 85,000 gas cylinders to the market daily. Things will go back to normal now. We will be able to restore gas stocks in the next 4 day," he told the press.

However, JVP MP Vijitha Herath, who recently made startling revelations in parliament over fertilizer payments to India, said the Chairman of Litro must reveal the deceitful officials involved in the mafia.

"Is it the Minister, is it the State Minister or someone above them? It is the responsibility of the Chairman of Litro Gas Lanka Limited to reveal the perpetrators before the nation," he added.

The Member of Parliament said once the details are available the JVP will champion the cause to file legal action against the perpetrators.

"This massive fraud behind Litro Gas Limited might as well be swept under the carpet with ease merely because it is the Government that protects these thieves," he added.
