Prison Medical Officer arrested for providing inmates with phones in exchange for cash

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Prison Officials arrested the Chief Medical Officer at the Bogambara Prison for attempting to provide female inmates with mobile phones and other contraband.

The Prisons Department said officials were informed that the Chief Medical Officer at the Bogambara Prison Hospital was providing mobile phones, accessories, and other items to female inmates, in exchange for cash that is deposited to his name.

On Friday (29), the Prisons Superintendent after coming into possession of a cash receipt had deployed a team of officers for a special secret operation.

These officers arrested the Chief Medical Officer at his office when he attempted to provide a mobile phone charger and two batteries to a female inmate who had approached him for medication.
