Bahrain and SL discuss development of existing relations

COLOMBO (News 1st); Bahrain and Sri Lanka discussed the further development of existing relations to new avenues of cooperation between the two nations during the first session of Political Consultations held between them virtually. The two countries previously signed an MOU on Political Consultations in 2009 in view of further developing bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest The meeting identified several key areas including trade, investment, manpower, education, culture, tourism, health, agriculture, skill development, and vocational training for mutual benefit. Furthermore, the meeting proposed to enter into new bilateral agreements and to revisit the signed agreements to formalize such cooperation in the identified areas. The Bahrain delegation briefed about the contributions of the Sri Lankan migrant workers and their commitment to the welfare and free vaccination of Sri Lankan Migrant workers in Bahrain. Foreign Secretary of Sri Lanka Prof. Jayanath Colombage thanked and appreciated the Bahrain Government for their kind gesture of facilitating the Sri Lankan migrant workers with free vaccination and mentioned that Sri Lanka is willing to explore employment opportunities in Bahrain for the skilled and semi-skilled Sri Lankans. The Second Session of the Political consultation between Sri Lanka and Bahrain will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2022.
