A Fundamental Rights Application was filed with the Supreme Court noting that in 2017 officers attached to the Anuradhapura Crimes Investigation Bureau had unlawfully arrested the victim, a youth at the time, and had hanged & beaten him in an inhumane manner.

The cops identified as Sirisenage Priyadarshana and Nilantha Priyadarshana were also ordered to pay Rs. 25,000/- each as a legal fee.
