COLOMBO (News 1st); The teacher's unions say that the strike action will be strengthened until the 2022 Budget is presented at the Parliament. The Secretary of the Ceylon Teacher's Service Union (North West), M. A. Wimalasiri says that the teacher's strike was a success as the Governor of the Uva Province, despite issuing threats to teachers, failed to reopen more than 25 schools out of the 465 schools in the Province. Stating that the Government cannot be allowed to take advantage of the teachers who are maintained by public funds, Wimalasiri said that the teacher's union will meet the Governor on 25th October, on the same day that teachers are planning to return to schools. Meanwhile, the Secretary of the CTSU (Southern Province), Sunil Gamage says that it was observed that graduate teachers were sent to schools yesterday (21) to continue teaching. He further stated that the Government has commenced treating teachers and principals as terrorists and the teachers' union will not tolerate being treated as such. Emphasizing that the Governors and other authorities failed to reopen even 5% of the schools, Gamage said that the strike action will be strengthened until the upcoming budget is presented at the Parliament. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuFC9cOeBdg
