Vaccination program for children aged 16-17 to commence tomorrow

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Director-General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena says that the vaccination program of children between the ages of 16 and 17 islandwide will commence from tomorrow (22).

According to the DGHS, the Principals, Zonal Directors of Education, and the District Directors of Health Services will decide on age groups that will be vaccinated first.

The relevant medical officers have also been tasked with working out a schedule of which schools will be the first to carry out the vaccination program.

He added that the decision was taken after discussing it with the Ministries of Education and Health.

The Director-General of Health Services also stated that a time limit for vaccination has not been set, however, the inoculation program will take place at schools.

Moreover, the duration of the vaccination drive will be decided after discussions with the relevant Medical Officers of Health as well as Principals, Dr. Gunawardena added.
