COLOMBO (News 1st); The General Secretary of the Ceylon Teacher's Union, Joseph Starlin says that the strike conducted by the teacher's unions has proven to be 98% successful.

Speaking to media today (21), Starlin said that reports have been received that several Provincial authorities along with Police have attempted to reopen schools without the participation of the students and teachers.

Stalin also questioned the intent of the Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekara to threaten teachers and principals, as he is not the Education Minister to do so.

Moreover,  President of the All Ceylon United Teachers' Union Ven. Yalewela Pannasekara Thero alleges that the Government authorities are disrespecting and disregarding the worker's ordinance and the laws of the land with their actions, as several similar reports have been received.

The Chairman of the association of Education Professionals, Ven. Ulapane Sumangala Thero added that the strike will continue on 25th October as well, as opposed to the teacher's union decision to come to schools only on the 25th.
