NO link between Indian loan & PC elections - Dullas

COLOMBO (News 1st); There is no link between the Indian Loan Facility for fuel purchases and the Provincial Council Elections, stressed Sri Lanka's Media Minister Dullas Alahapperuma on Tuesday (19).

"There are issues with regard to the electoral system. These need to be resolved. The four main political bodies have four separate election methods and that needs to be solved," said Media Minister and Cabinet Spokesperson Dullas Alahapperuma at the weekly Cabinet Media Briefing.

He said a loan facility from India would have conditions, and the Provincial Council Elections is NOT one of them.

However, ruling party MP Jagath Kumara says this is not the time for elections.

"The people are in despair and have no faith. Therefore, this is not the time for elections. What needs to be done is to amend the legislation and also provide relief to the people," he said.
