Govt has money for Development Committees, but not for people, says Sajith

COLOMBO (News 1st); Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa says that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya has filed a fundamental rights petition at the Supreme Court to protect the rights of the farmers. Speaking during an event held in Tissamaharama today (17), the Opposition Leader said that the FR petition was filed to ensure the rights of hundreds and thousands of farmers in the country. Pointing out that the prices of essential commodities have gone up, Premadasa said that although the Government claims to have no funds, its political leaders have granted Rs. 100 million for the Chairmen of the development committees, another Rs. 50 million for the Deputy Chairmen and Rs. 200 million for others. Furthermore, he questioned whether the Government has any funds to reduce gas prices and to reduce the price of milk powder.
