Amber alert issued for strong winds & rough seas

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued an amber advisory for Strong Winds and Rough seas from today (17) until tomorrow (18). Accordingly, rough seas and strong winds can be observed at deep and shallow sea areas from Kankasanturai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota. Moreover, wind speed can be increased up to 70 kmph in the sea area extending from Kankasanturai to Puttalam via Mannar. These sea areas will be rough to very rough at times, the Meteorology Department warns. Wind speed can be increased up to 60 kmph in the sea area extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota. These sea areas will be rough at times. Naval and fishing communities have been advised to be vigilant in this regards.
