Teachers Must Not Strike As Students Will Suffer - Says Public Security Minister

COLOMBO (News 1st); Public Security Minister Rear Admiral (Retd) Sarath Weerasekera has called on teachers not to go on strike based on the instructions of a few.

"We cannot justify the strike by the teachers because the students are the ones who have to suffer," said the Minister.

The Minister stressed that if any person or group tries to intimidate or threaten a teacher, the law will be enforced irrespective of their status.

The Teachers’ and Principals’ Trade Union Alliance has said that if the issue of teacher-principal salary anomalies is not resolved before the resumption of schools on the 21st, they will not report for duty on that day.
