COLOMBO (News 1st); Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, the head of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Biology at Sri Jayewardenepura University, University of Sri Jayewardenepura says a new study defined nine core long-COVID symptoms, occurring 90-180 days after COVID-19 was diagnosed.
“long-COVID symptoms were more frequent in those who had been hospitalised, and they were slightly more common in women,” he tweeted.
Dr. Jeewandara highlighted the following symptoms in his series of tweets on long-covid;
Abnormal breathing – 8%
Abdominal symptoms – 8%
Anxiety/depression – 15%
Chest/throat pain – 6%
Cognitive problems – 4%
Fatigue – 6%
Headache – 5%
Myalgia (muscle pain) – 1.5%
Other pain – 7%
The term “long COVID” is commonly used to describe signs and symptoms that continue or develop after acute COVID-19
