CA suspends registration of 15 elephants released by MCs

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Court of Appeal on Wednesday (29) ordered the Director-General of Wildlife to suspend the registration of 15 elephants released as per the orders issued by the Colombo Additional Magistrate's Court and the Matale Magistrate Court.

Applications were filed with the Court of Appeal challenging the orders to release the elephants to their owners and the applications were taken up in the presence of Justices Sobitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola.

In addition, the Court of Appeal ordered for ‘Sujeewa’, a female tusker, and her 04-month-old calf, to be further accommodated at the Udawalawa Elephant Transit Home (ETH).

The Court of Appeal ordered intervening parties to file their submissions on the 13th of October.
