COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka will re-open schools in phases from October 2021.
Piyal Nishantha De Silva, the State Minister for Women and Child Development told reporters that upon receiving instructions from the Director-General of Health Services, schools will re-open in four phases.
Phase One: Schools with less than 200 students with classes from Grades One to Five
Phase Two: Schools with less than 200 students
Phase Three: Ordinary Level & Advanced Level Classes
Phase Four: All Schools in the country
At the same time, Sri Lanka authorities hope to re-open universities by November.
The Chairman of the University Grants Commission Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunga told News 1st that universities will open as soon as the vaccination program for university students is complete.
"We hope to resume sessions for third and fourth-year students at least by November," he said.
