Risk of COVID-19 same despite decreasing numbers: Health Ministry

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Health warns that the risk of COVID-19 remains the same despite a decrease in the number of infections and deaths reported daily. State Minister, Specialist Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle said that the number of COVID- 19 patients and deaths is showing a decline compared to the previous weeks. Responding to a question regarding the link of the number of PCR tests affecting the reporting of daily cases, she mentioned that the trend of decline is reported mainly from the number of patients being admitted to hospitals rather than from testing. She pointed out that although people and vehicles are seen out and about during the existing quarantine curfew, the absence of public transport, gatherings and other major events have effectively contributed to the reduction of cases and that it is practically understandable that people do need to commute for daily essentials and other economic reasons. Dr. Fernandopulle added that the Health Ministry is pleased that the Government took steps to impose restrictions while gradually easing the burden on the people.
