Universities to reopen after vaccinating all students

COLOMBO (News 1st); Academic and Non-Academic staff across all universities in the Sri Lankan university system will be administered with both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible, in order to expedite the re-opening of universities, said Chairman of the University Grants Commission Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunga. He made this comment in a statement to the Government Information Department, obtained by News 1st. Professor Amaratunga has noted that a joint program for this purpose is in effect with the Health Sector. According to the Government Information Department, all academic and non-academic staff at universities over the age of 30 have been jabbed with both doses of the vaccine. Professor Amaratunga has noted that the relevant universities have been instructed to liaise with the closes vaccination centers for the vaccination of academic & non-academic staff at universities as well as the students who are below the age of 30. He emphasized that even if all Universities are currently closed, the academic activities are successfully being carried out online.
