#DataScam : Who is the mastermind ?

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Lanka Government Cloud is considered to be one of the most secured systems in the country and the responsibility of ensuring its security is vested with the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA).

Epic Lanka Technologies is identified as the service provider for the National Medicines Regulatory Authority, which also has a database in the Lanka Government Cloud, to streamline its operations and services.

The mysterious disappearance of data from the NMRA database in the ICTA maintained Lanka Government Cloud took place on the 09th of July 2021, and Epic Lanka Technologies said the deletion of data was the result of a human error or a mistake by an engineer.

It was reported that vital data owned by the NMRA was lost due to this.

Later it was revealed that the data that went missing were those uploaded during the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the NMRA went on to say that COVID-19 vaccine and medical equipment data were added to the system manually.

Yet, during the pandemic the NMRA advertised for such information to be submitted manually.

Thereafter, ICTA updated the Lanka Government Cloud and this resulted in several government websites going offline, and the system was later restored.

There are concerns that data that could have been recovered via forensic examination may have been lost forever, following the update.

Further, there are serious concerns as to why there was no Backup or Disaster Recovery System for the NMRA database in the Lanka Government Cloud.

But is it possible not to assume that this is not part of the Medical Mafia, that the Attorney General's Department was referring to in court?

A government cloud in a country is being set up to include highly sensitive information about its citizens.

If one person can access and delete data on such a sensitive database, there are serious concerns of personal data stores in government servers.
