6-day old infant falls victim to COVID-19

COLOMBO (News 1st): A 6-day old infant had died due to COVID-19 infection at the Balangoda Base Hospital last night (12).

A mother residing in the Bombuwa area in Balangoda had given birth to the baby on 5th September & the child was later reported to have developed difficulty in breathing.

Accordingly, steps have been taken to admit the baby to the neonatal intensive care unit of the hospital and provide treatment, however, the infant tragically passed away six days later, yesterday (12), while receiving treatment for COVID-19.

A subsequent PCR test confirmed that the infant was infected with COVID-19.
