Tourism Chairman requests DGHS to remove restrictions for tourists

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Chairperson of Sri Lanka Tourism, Kimarli Fernando has made several requests to the Director General of Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardena to remove several health restrictions to enable tourists to visit Sri Lanka. The Tourism Chairperson had directed the letter after meeting with key influencers in Russia, along with Media, tour operators and travel agents during a visit she made with the Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga and State Minister Tharaka Balasuriya. Accordingly, Fernando has requested for the need for the flight crew to wear PPE to be removed, to remove a PCR test 72 hours before boarding the flight for fully vaccinated persons, to remove PCR testing for children below 12 years and to allow for Rapid Antigen Tests to be conducted for tourists on arrival, at the airport. Tourism authorities in Sri Lanka have visited Russia with the intention of promoting tourism in the country in hopes of revitalizing the industry after downfall experienced by the pandemic.
