COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka requires an efficient method of governance and not emergency regulations, said the country's opposition leader Sajith Premadasa on Monday (6)
'The government has introduced Emergency Regulations for the urgent need to protect the people of the country,' he said.
However, this is not the appropriate approach, said Premadasa adding the urgent needs can never be approached with emergency regulations.
The Sri Lankan Government is still not enforcing the Essential Public Services Act (No. 61 of 1979) or the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, No.9 of 2003 or the Sri Lanka Disaster Management Act, No.13 of 2005, he said adding that these needs to enforce for a collective approach to face the pandemic.
He questioned why the government is adopting a lethargic attitude to enforce these acts.
