Fairly heavy showers to occur today

COLOMBO (News 1st): Fairly heavy showers or thundershowers above 50mm will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and in Galle and Matara Districts today (6), the Meteorolgical Department says. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva Province and in Batticaloa and Ampara Districts, particularly in the evening or night. Fairly strong gusty winds up to (40-50) kmph can be expected in the western slope of central hills, Northern, North-Central and North-Western Provinces and in Hambantota and Trincomalee Districts today (6). General public has kindly been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. On the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka until 07 September in this year. The nearest towns of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today (06) are Kosgoda and Thawalama.
