COLOMBO (News 1st); The continuous delay in repairing the damages caused to the breakwater of the Parakrama Samudra has raised serious concerns among the locals in Polonnaruwa.

It has been 8 days since the invaluable breakwater of the Parakrama Samudraya was destroyed to construct a jogging track.

However, no attempts have been made as of yet to ensure the breakwater is restored once more.

The breakwater of the historic Parakrama Samudraya was destroyed with the use of heavy machinery including backhoes to construct a jogging track.

However, the process was halted in the face of heavy opposition from the Maha Sangha and area residents.

One local told News 1st that following the damage caused to the breakwater the bund of the Parakrama Samudra is gradually washing away.

Heavy rains are expected in the Polonnaruwa District once the inter monsoon season is activated during October and November and thereafter during the North Eastern Monsoon.

Are authorities delaying the restoration of the breakwater intentionally to allow the Parakrama Samudra to be destroyed through natural causes?
