COLOMBO (News 1st): A couple died in a fire that broke out in a two storeyed house at Janatha Mawatha, Aldeniya, Kadawatha this morning (28).

Police said the fire broke out around 4.20 this morning.

The victims have been identified as a married couple, aged 57 and 53 years.

Police said that before the fire broke out, the couple had gone to their daughter’s house downstairs and given her a bag, afterwards asking her to live her life well.

The Police said the fire is suspected to be an attempt at taking their own life.

The fire was later put out by the Kadawatha Fire Brigade.

A magisterial inquiry and a post mortem will be held today (28) on the bodies of the deceased, Police added.
