Govt launches new project to aid Samurdhi beneficiaries

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Government has launched a new project ;'Samurdhi Arunalu Livelihood Development Program' to strengthen the economy of Samurdhi beneficiaries. Under the new program, financial assistance and loans will be provided to 200,000 selected families on a concessionary basis to contribute to the production process. The plan of the project is to direct selected Samurdhi recipients for various activities including home based industries and agricultural products to strengthen their economy and transform them into middle income earners. Shehan Semasinghe, State Minister of Samurdhi, Home Economy, Micro Finance, Self Employment and Business Development expressing his ideas on the project; "The main objective of this is to select the Samurdhi recipient families as well as the low income families as well as the families who are interested in learning new talents and abilities to transform themselves into a higher economy group to strengthen the economy as a first step this year. We will provide them with financial assistance ranging from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 100,000 and facilitate them to procure the necessary equipment for their industries."
