COLOMBO (News 1st); Two people were arrested and remanded until the 23rd of August for assaulting Public Health Inspectors in Dikwella.
Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said that two PHIs attached to the Dikwella PHI Office had visited a residence where a person had died due to COVID-19.
‘They were obstructed from performing their duties and were assaulted,’ he said.
Upon a police investigation, the two assailants were arrested and thereafter remanded.
The Police Spokesperson said similar incidents were reported from time to time across the country in the recent past.
‘Stern action will be taken against people who commit such offenses,’ he added.
On the 02nd of December 2020, a person spat on a PHI and the suspect was arrested, and court sentenced the suspect to 06 years of imprisonment.
