(VIDEO) Big Fish Let Loose - Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith bemoans Easter Sunday Attacks

COLOMBO (News 1st); The head of Sri Lanka's Catholic Church has raised serious concern with respect to the investigations being carried out on the 2019 April 21st Attacks.

His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith speaking to reporters on Friday (13) said that it is known that the Directorate of Intelligence had made contact with the group led by Zaharan Hashim, who carried out suicide attacks in Sri Lanka in April 2019.

'We need to know what dealings took place between 'Army Mohideen' and this group. This is mentioned in the report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry as well,' he said.

His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith also voiced concern over the investigations with regard to the assassination of two police officers in 2019 in Vavuniathivu.

'There is an intelligence officer who was identified as 'Sonic'. He had used a personal called 'Matale Zaharan' to make radio contact with a person in Indonesia and urged ISIS to take responsibility for the attacks,' he told reporters.

He said this could have been an attempt to divert attention away from the real perpetrators.

'It is stated that the intelligence officer attached to the State Intelligence Services known as 'Sonic Sonic' had used the person in Matale to force ISIS to claim responsibility,' he said while questioning why there was so much interest to ensure that ISIS takes the fall for the attacks.

It clearly means that a person who carried out the attacks wanted a cover-up, said His Eminence.

Further, there are questions over the identity of the Military Intelligence Officer who made contact with 'Jameel', the suicide bomber who failed to detonate inside the Taj Samudra Hotel, he added.

We are concerned as to whether there is an attempt to file cases against the 'Small Fish' responsible for the attacks and let loose the 'Big Fish' responsible for this heinous crime, said His Eminence.

He urged the government to fulfill its responsibility and added until it is done properly, the protest campaign will not go silent.
