COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka has commenced importation of oxygen as a solution for the depleting oxygen reserves of the country, Deputy Director General Dr. Hemantha Herath says. The demand for oxygen has increased with the Delta variant, Dr. Herath said at a a press conference held today (12). Dr. Herath mentioned that however, Sri Lanka cannot fully rely on importing oxygen as there is a possibility that other countries may also run out of oxygen. "However, we have provided all the major hospitals in the island with their own oxygen production machine" He added. Dr. Herath emphasized on the importance of ensuring that everyone abides with health regulations, as the entire health system cannot continue to rely on oxygen and it is the responsibility of the public to lower the number of cases and deaths.
