COLOMBO (News 1st): Although the issue of teacher’s salary anomalies was discussed at Monday’s (09) Cabinet meeting, a quick solution to such problems cannot be given by the Government, Education Minister G.L. Peiris said on Tuesday (10).
“The decision taken by the Cabinet concerning this matter affects all other State services. Due to this, the Cabinet of Ministers decided that a more permanent solution is needed with regard to this issue. Especially during the times of the COVID-19 pandemic, we need to ensure that people have the means to live first and foremost. Therefore, the Cabinet will present a solution to the salary anomaly via the Budget proposal, which will be presented to the parliament in about three months.” The Minister said.
He also mentioned that the Cabinet has appointed a sub-committee to look into this matter as the impact of the pandemic on students and teachers is most important.
“I humbly request all teachers to care about the plight of the students and to ensure that the education of all students is conducted seamlessly” The Minister added.
